16 “The one who listens to you listens to Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me; and he who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.”
17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”
18 And He said to them, “I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning.
19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you.
20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven.”

Can you picture it?

Jesus was traveling to Jerusalem to go about His Father’s business and His followers were invited to walk with Him. This was an inspiring journey for His followers, especially the seventy He had sent out on mission. They went ahead to the cities and villages, where Jesus was headed. They were preparing the way for Him. They came to realize the power Jesus had over the adversary was given to them. That same power conquered death and hell and is still alive in each of His followers today! Whom shall we fear? (Psalm 27:1)

The happy results from submitting to Christ’s call is to rejoice not in our own successes, but that we get to be a part of proclaiming the kingdom of God here on earth. You are His missionary. He has given you everything you need to be an effective witness. Christ no longer has a physical body on earth; He has each of us.

Christ uses your eyes to see those who need help and have compassion on them…your hands to equip and bless others…your feet to go where He sends you.

  • How do these verses demonstrate Jesus’ authority over the enemy?
  • How are you making a difference for God’s kingdom? Does your life reflect the unwavering power of Christ that dwells within you?
  • Pray for God’s love, grace, and power to be undeniable in you. Thank God that He has given you everything you need to face today.
