About Marriage

We believe that God wonderfully and intentionally creates each person as male or female (Genesis 1:26-27). The Bible informs and defines our views on marriage and the family. We believe God created marriage as a picture of Christ’s relationship with the church (Ephesians 5:22-32). We believe the term marriage has only one meaning: The uniting of one biological man and one biological woman in a single, exclusive union (Genesis 2:24). We also believe God’s desire for marriage is to be the foundation for strong families, which will lead to strong churches and societies (Psalm 103:17-18). The Lord has given marriage to us as a gift that is to be enjoyed and celebrated as a good thing (Proverbs 18:22).

The Bible tells us that God is to be at the center of the marriage relationship (John 3:30). We believe the most successful and God-honoring marriages will be the ones that consistently have both husband and wife equally committed to putting God first in their relationship (2 Corinthians 6:14). We need God’s grace in order for us to do this well, and He gives grace to us so that we can honor Him in all things (2 Corinthians 9:8). As the husband and wife love each other in the covenant they have made, God’s goodness and love are displayed and demonstrated for the world to see (Matthew 5:16).
