For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love.
Who has influenced your faith? Likely, their impact on your life did not come because they held the title of “Christian” but by the way they poured into and served you. They’ve shown you, through the way they live, what it means to be Christlike.
These types of people have used their freedom in Christ to give glory to Him. We have the opportunity for similar impact. Following Jesus means more than acquiring knowledge or checking boxes of good deeds. We have freedom to live as our Savior did—a life of service to those around us. Paul addressed this in Philippians 2:5-8 when he said, “Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, as He already existed in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but emptied Himself by taking the form of a bond-servant and being born in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death: death on a cross.” This is not our natural approach but is possible when we have been made free by Christ. We can take up this calling with delight, knowing the service we do has an eternal purpose and impact on others.
- Who has exemplified a life of service to you?
- What is difficult for you about taking on the same mindset as Christ?
- Pray and ask God to help you take on the same attitude as Christ, one of service and humility.
