And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to follow all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
When was the last time you faced an overwhelming task? Maybe it was a big house project, a presentation at work, or having to share hard news with someone. Many of us feel this same way about the call of the Great Commission. We don’t know how to do what Jesus has asked us and we are intimidated by the scope of work He has given us. We have our string of questions: How do I make disciples? What do I teach people? Will people even listen to me? Thankfully, this call is not solely our responsibility. His call is a partnership, one that He who has authority in heaven and on earth, takes up with us and before us. We go because of His authority; we are sent with the assurance that we don’t take up this task alone; and He is with us always, even to the very end of the age.
Jesus said to his disciples in John 14:25-27, ““These things I have spoken to you while remaining with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you. Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor fearful.” You can partner with Jesus, the resurrected King, to reach the people around you and make a difference by sharing hope with them. You go this equipped by Christ, through the power of the Holy Spirit, and with the peace of God. Do not fear!
