Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity.

When we consider sharing our faith with others, we often visualize a moment where we sit down with them or take them to church and they hear the gospel clearly. Those moments are important and are a vital part of sharing our faith with others but those are not the only moments that contribute to the way people come to faith. Others see the way we act, the way we respond to hardship, and the way we interact with others as evidence of the faith we proclaim. When you make new friends, you observe their actions and their interests alongside what they say as you build the new relationship. Similarly, people are watching our actions, not just listening to the words we say to determine if they are interested in following Christ.

When we reflect on the people who have impacted us, we may not recall our conversations with them verbatim, but we can remember how they treated us, the way they spoke to us, and the love they extended to us. Our words and actions are connected, and both have their place as we live out our faith and share with others. We need to live in a Christ-like way and point to Him in all we do. As long as we live and breathe, we have opportunities to display our faith in every area of life. We can conduct ourselves in wisdom with our co-workers and with our children. We can make most of the opportunities we have with our neighbors and our friends. By God’s grace and equipped by His Spirit, we can share our faith through our conduct and our words to show all the world the hope and joy of being His.

  • Where do you typically focus on sharing your faith more, in your words or actions? Why?
  • How can you use both words and actions to share our faith with others?
  • Pray and ask God to help you make the most of the opportunities to conduct yourself with wisdom toward outsiders.
