For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work among you will complete it by the day of Christ Jesus.

A good painter knows how each stroke will contribute to the overall picture from the moment the brush hits the canvas. Each stroke is intentional and crafted to the artist’s eye. Once that work begins only the artist can truly guide it to the intended design. Even with the most descriptive communication, the painting would still turn out differently if it was finished by someone else.

From the very beginning, God is the One who created you and your story. He created life before you and the life around you. He is the author. If you are a follower of Christ, He is also the One who redeemed you, restored you, and made you new. He knew you before you were born, and He brought you into His family. Sometimes, after being a Christian for a while, we stop depending on God. We start to live in the predictable aspects of religious routine, and we forget to live seeking to trust Him with everything. We forget that He is working in us still. Just because we get comfortable in our routine, doesn’t mean God is done with us. He is working in your life and will see it through to completion. He redeemed you so you can be free to live with Him. He is making a masterpiece of your life for your good and His glory. He is redeeming even the broken pieces you want to hide. He has promised to finish what He began, and we can trust Him to do so.

  • What are some pieces of your life that feel like a mistake or too broken for God to redeem?
  • Why is it hard for you to trust God to work in your life?
  • Pray and surrender the things that feel like a mistake. Ask God to redeem these things and work His purpose in them.
