“But a time is coming, and even now has arrived, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Some things we do require our full attention. When we work distracted, we often see a difference in the mistakes we make or the things we forget. As innocent as it can feel in the moment, distraction can be destructive. Worship is something we are called to do with our full attention. When Jesus spoke to the women at the well, He told her that true worship is done in spirit and in truth. Worship is not simply going to the right place or doing the right rituals, it is about a heart of full devotion to God. We need to worship in spirit, not just focused on the things we can see but with an awareness of spiritual realities. And we need to worship in truth, looking for His way and His truth sincerely. This is not something we can do half-heartedly.

When we live for Christ and worship Him in all we do, it requires our full attention. When we are distracted, even by the good things of the world like success and comfort, our attention is taken from the One we are made for. How would your life look different if you lived with full attention on worshiping God in all you do? Colossians 3:16-17 says, “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” Worship is to be our way of life. Worship is not only for Sunday mornings, but also expressed in our daily lives as we follow Christ and worship Him in all we do.
