“Pray, then, in this way:‘Our Father, who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.’”

There is a special bond between a child and a parent. From the moment they are born, children look for their parent to provide for their basic needs. Ideally, the child looks to the parent for guidance and love throughout his or her life.

If a child has this special place in their heart for a parent, how much more so should we have a special place in our heart for God, our Creator and heavenly Father? He has made us, cared for us, and kept the promises to us that even our parents could not keep. He has made the way for our redemption through Jesus, even when we were dead in our sins. Above all people and possessions in our lives, He should hold the place of honor in our lives.

When we are reminded that His name is to be honored, our mindset shifts from living for ourselves to living for Him. First Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” As Christ’s followers we are reminded of the sacred relationship we have with Him. He is our Father, who is in heaven, and we desire to honor and glorify His name as He deserves.

  • What does it look like to honor God’s name in daily life?
  • What are some specific ways you can honor God today?
  • Confess God’s preeminence over all things. Ask Him to help you glorify His name today.
