Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever abandon you,”

Summer often includes vacations, road trips, and time away from home but there is always a great amount of preparation needed to reach that moment of rest everyone looks forward to. The preparations span from small details like snacks for the road trip to grand plans of booking site-seeing excursions. Typically, there is one person who knows all these details of the trip, he or she has thought through every outing and have prepared in ways others may not have considered. That person helps others enjoy the time away because he or she took care of so many of the details of planning in advance. Others can be content because of the provision of the planner.

This passage reminds us of the root of where true contentment comes from. We have a God who is with us and will never abandon us. Because He is a good provider who gives us our daily bread, we can hold onto hope and contentment in Him even when the circumstances of life are difficult. We don’t have to hold on to the love of money because no amount of money can satisfy the way He does. We can be content because we trust that God sees and cares for all the details of the journey we are on with Him. We are not the tour guides, travel planners, or detail providers on this journey of life; God is the One who supplies our needs, and He does this perfectly so we can be content in Him.

  • What does it look like to live in contentment daily?
  • Pray and ask God to help you grow in trusting in His provision.
