Set your minds on the things that are above, not on the things that are on earth.
Have you ever tried walking while keeping your eyes on your ? You can do it for a little while, but it becomes challenging when you want to go in a certain direction. Naturally, when we walk, we keep our eyes up on the horizon because it helps us know what direction to go. We see the obstacles in the way, and we can choose the most efficient path. When we look down, we get tripped up by the things that are right in front of us, we don’t have a good perspective or outlook for where to go.
As those called to set our minds on things above, not on things of the earth, it can be a challenge. We can’t see the things that are above. We can see and easily pursue the things here on earth. They are advertised, glamorized, and monetized. The things of earth promise life and happiness but when we pursue them, we are walking while looking at our feet. We don’t see the bigger work God is doing in the world. We don’t see the grand story of redemption He is weaving. We don’t see life as He intended it to be. To have right perspective on life, on what to do or what it means to be successful, we must look to Him and His kingdom. We don’t have to stumble over the things of this world; through Him, we can see the hope ahead, gain perspective for today, and direction for the obstacles we face.
- What are some of the things of earth you have been focused on?
- What are some things from above that you can focus on?
- Pray for a new perspective on life, one that looks to God for hope instead of the things of this world.
