And he got up and immediately picked up the pallet and went out in the sight of everyone, so that they were all amazed and were glorifying God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

We’ve become desensitized to the wonder of our modern comforts: We flip a switch and it turns on the lights in the room. We move the faucet and water starts to flow. We press a button, and a machine starts to wash our dishes. When these inventions came into existence, they were ground-breaking, but they have become routine, boring parts of our lives that we don’t think twice about. Those who have grown up in the church struggle in a similar way in our faith. We have heard the stories; we know Jesus performed miracles and rose from the dead. The more we hear these truths, the more easily we can become desensitized to them too. Just because a truth is unchanging truth doesn’t make it less amazing. Jesus’s earthly ministry and miracles aren’t any less remarkable because we weren’t there to see them.

Even though we were not there to see Jesus’s miraculous healing of this paralyzed man, we too can stand amazed with the crowd and glorify God for the miracles He has done through Jesus. We can proclaim, “We have never seen anything like this!” No matter how many times we have heard the stories, we cannot deny the remarkable, amazing works Jesus did. And His miracles are more than just amazing stories to share or moments in history; they are reminders of who He is and the authority He has as the Son of God. He is worthy of our worship, our praise, and our wonder. He has done amazing things, and He is ready to work in our lives when we surrender to Him.

  • What are some amazing things Jesus has done that you take for granted? Why is it important to acknowledge what He has done for you?
  • What would it look like to be daily amazed by what God has done? How would that change the way you live?
  • Pray and worship God for all the amazing things He has done that you have taken for granted.
