And God is able to make all grace overflow to you, so that, always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.
In different areas of life, we wrestle with the question “Do I have enough?” Whether we worry about how much money we make, the possessions we own, the amount of food we cooked for a party, or the energy we have at the end of a long day, we all ask this question sometimes. And this question often translates into how we give. When we don’t feel like we make enough money, we have a hard time giving our tithe in church. When we feel like we don’t have enough time, we struggle to volunteer and serve others. When we feel like we don’t own enough possessions, we struggle to share what we do have.
This passage addresses this struggle in our hearts by reminding us of a factor we don’t often consider: God, the greatest and most generous Giver, gives us enough. He gives us breath in our lungs; He gives us our daily bread; He gives us skills to have jobs where we make money. He can “make all grace overflow to you.” Nothing falls outside of His scope or is too big for Him to handle. You don’t have to worry about having enough because He takes care of that for you. You can give generously and serve sacrificially when you walk with God because He will care for you in the process. He is the One who will make sure have more than enough to do all the good He has called you to do. Only through Him can we have more than enough. May we trust Him with all we have and all we give because we are confident in His provision for us.
- Why do we worry about not having enough? How can remembering God takes care of us affect our giving?
- What are some things that you need to trust God to provide for?
- Pray and ask God to grow your trust in Him to provide as you give.
