Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness; you will be enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God.
When someone does something nice for us, we are taught from a very young age to say thank you. Often before children can even speak, you hear the parents prompt them, “Say thank you!” More than just a spirit of gratitude, we want to build a habit of appreciation so we don’t take gifts for granted. In most cases, we direct our appreciation toward the person who has given to us.
As we sit around the table this Thanksgiving Day, we can list many things to be thankful for but no one person at the table can take the credit for giving us those things. The things we feel most grateful for at the end of the year are often intangible; they are things that don’t come from the generosity of a person but from the generosity of God. In His graciousness, God has given you another year of life and provided for all your needs. He provides all things and holds all things together.
Whether this year has been amazing or difficult, God’s presence and faithfulness to provide do not change. Our great God gives us what we need, and He is faithful to be with us through good times and bad when we trust in Him. This Thanksgiving may we have more than a general heart of gratitude but direct our thanks to God and all He has brought us through this year.
- What are some things you want to thank God for this year?
- What are some things that have been hard about this year? How has God been present with you through those things?
- Pray and thank God for His provision this past year.
