You will make known to me the way of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.
What is your happiest memory? Many moments of happiness pass quickly, like finding a deal or enjoying a meal at a restaurant, but moments like having a child, getting married, or seeing a loved one leave a lasting impression. We tend to remember those times and how we felt.
When we come to faith, we may turn to a list of dos and don’ts, but that is not the whole story. God has not given us a standard to live by or meet on our own. He has made known to us the way of life through His Son. As we walk with Him, we have the fullness of joy because He is a joyful God. Does your picture of God match that reality? So often, we take our ideas of God from our earthly experiences, but Scripture paints a clear picture of Him that we should not forget: He is joyful.
This is the God who has invited us in. This is the God who came as a man to give us access to life in Him. This joyful God invites you to be with Him every day so that He might give that joy to you and you might share that joy with others. Many moments of happiness are worth recognition and gratitude, but nothing compares to the life of joy we can have in Christ. He gives us more than a life of good memories; He gives us a life of purpose, direction, and eternal joy with Him.
- How would you describe God? What are some of the ways you view God because of your past experiences? What is He like according to Scripture?
- Why is it important to remember God is joyful? Why is that hard to believe at times?
- Thank God for His joy and that He gives us access to share in that joy with Him.
