For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.

When has someone sacrificed something for you? What led them to do so? When someone goes out of their way to sacrifice for another person, they usually have a good reason. Today’s verse, maybe the best known in the Bible, is a reminder of God’s heart towards humanity. While there are times it feels easy to blame God or paint a picture of Him as angry, verses like this remind us He is not a distant dictator but a loving Father who has drawn near to His people in their time of need.

His desire for His creation, for you and all people, is for us to have eternal life. He has gone to great lengths to make this happen. And He desires for you to begin eternal life with Him now, not just someday. Have you considered all God has sacrificed to show you His love? Have you thought about how much God has done to walk with you? God has gone to great lengths to give you great hope. There is only one simple response needed to this amazing news: believe. But this isn’t just mental agreement. Live your life believing in Him. Belief in Jesus should change everything, from your reactions in an argument to the way you make major decisions. Believe in Him, live in light of that belief, and tell others about eternal life with Him.

  • What are some ways you have searched for life outside of Christ? What happened?
  • What does it look like to live a life believing in Jesus? What would that change for you?
  • Pray and thank God for eternal life. Ask Him to show you others who also need this hope.
