I am the Lord, that is My name;
I will not give My glory to another,
Nor My praise to idols.
You may have heard the expression “putting God in a box.” We say this to communicate the way we seek to limit God according to what we can comprehend. We think, “this is too big for God to handle” or, “this is too small for God to care about.” We decide what God can do or have ideas of how He works without consulting Him through prayer or His Word. But when we look to Scripture we learn who God is and that He is often different and greater than the box we try to put Him in.
In this passage we are reminded that God is after our unadulterated devotion. Where we, even unknowingly, limit what we believe about God to fit our own conveniences, He remains undeterred in His purpose to draw us to Himself completely. God is worthy to be our all, our prize, and our redeemer. He will never fail us. When we seek Him, all the smaller things of life fall into their right order and place considering who He is. Jesus said as much in Matthew 6:33: “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you.”

- How has He exceeded your beliefs or expectations throughout your walk with Him?
- Pray and thank God that He is beyond any limits we set in our hearts and minds. Ask Him to remind you of His greatness and to draw you nearer in devotion today.
