For I handed down to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.

What are some things you find important to pass on to future generations? What are some lessons your parents made a point to teach you? We pass on those things we believe are most important. When Paul considered what he had shared with the Corithian church, it was the gospel that he shared first and foremost. The reality of Jesus’s finished work shaped everything he did and taught.

Is the gospel that transformative for us? We can teach many wonderful lessons and pass on many values to others, but do we primarily seek to do this with the gospel? What Jesus has done is radical and life changing. Believing in Him means more than agreeing with a historical account; it is recognizing His lordship over all things. The good news about Jesus impacts our whole lives.

Jesus said in John 14:6 “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.” When we are in Christ, we have He who is the way, the truth, and the life. He changes our perspective on life and gives us a new purpose to pass on to others.
