The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful people who will be able to teach others also.
Who are some leaders who have pointed you to Christ in significant ways? Who have you poured into in this way? The Christian faith is not something that starts and ends with us; it began long before us and will continue long after us. But we get to be a link between generations carrying on the message of truth. We pass on our faith, not just traditions or practices but the faithful teaching of God that has spanned generations. Paul emphasized this reality to Timothy in today’s verse.
It is important to assess the way we are leading in the specific areas of influence God has given. What are you are passing onto the next generation? What are the ways you are investing in and raising up new leaders to continue sharing God’s grace and love? Wherever you are in your walk with Christ, your growth is not meant only for your personal benefit but for the body of Christ as a whole. First Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” The love you have been given by God is mean to be shared with those around you so that they might share with others and the pattern will continue. In living this way, we fulfill God’s purpose in our lives and generation.
- Who has supported you in following Christ? What kind of difference have they made in your life?
- Who are the people you have sought to pour into? How are you seeking to do this?
- Pray and ask God to use you as a link between generations, passing on what you have learned to the next generation.
