“Because of the tender mercy of our God, with which the Sunrise from on high will visit us, to shine on those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” (Luke 1:78-79)

When was the last time you felt peace in life? When has peace felt far away and hard to attain? Depending on our circumstances, peace can feel present but quickly fleeting or far out of reach. God knows this struggle and offers a permanent solution. Instead of leaving us to our own devices or even giving us tips to get through life on our own, He came to earth as Immanuel – God with us—not only to save us from our sin but also guide us in the way of peace in a world full of chaos.

As we reflect on the Messiah in this Advent season, have we let ourselves be guided in His way of peace or have we tried to pave a path of our own? Jesus came not only to save us but also to guide us in the way of God, the way of peace we truly need. But following Him requires humility to be guided and taught. Peace does not have to be illusive and far off. It can be a present reality as we surrender to the Prince of Peace.

  • Where do you feel the need for God’s peace? What are some ways it feels far off?
  • How can you seek to be guided by Jesus’s way of peace instead of trying to handle things on your own? What makes that hard?
  • Pray and thank God for His present peace. Ask Him to guide you in His peace each day.
