Summary: Luke 2:8-11; John 1:1-13; 15:11

If you have ever tried to find your way around a dark room, you know it is not that fun. Wandering through the dark on our own wouldn’t be anyone’s idea of a good time, yet this is our reality without Jesus. When Jesus came, He brought light and joy into the world. He not only gave an opportunity to be saved from our sin but gave us the opportunity of a life of joy with God!

What does this say about God?

God knows the way to life and is the way to life. Jesus is the light; He is fully God, our Messiah. He entered into our world to point us to God and be present with us as God.

  • What is scary about the dark? What do you do when you are in the dark? Who has helped you then? Why is it special that Jesus was the Light for all people?
  • What are some things that make you happy and excited? Does that happiness last for a long time or a short time? Did you know Jesus wants us to have more than just happiness—He desires for us to have a joy that is with us all the time because we are with Him. How does that make you feel about spending time with Jesus?

  • What are some reasons it is scary to be in the dark? Why is light so important? Why is it special that Jesus was the Light for all people?
  • What are some things that make you happy or excited? Does that feeling last a long time? Why or why not? How does it feel to know that Jesus desires for you to spend time with Him to have joy that lasts not just happiness that lasts for a short time?

Discussion with Teens

  • What are some ways you have witnessed the darkness in the world? What are some solutions people have tried? Have they worked? Why or why not? Why is it special that Jesus was the Light for all people?
  • What is your time with Jesus like right now? What makes it hard to spend time with Him all the time? When you consider the joy that He desires for you—how does that change how you approach time with Him?
