Family Devotional: God’s Heart for All People
Read Together
Matthew 28:19 – “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.”
Psalm 67:1-2 – “God be gracious to us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us—that Your way may be known on the earth, Your salvation among all nations.”
Parent Intro
Imagine if you had the best news ever—maybe you won a million dollars, or found a cure for every sickness, or discovered a way to make everyone happy forever. Would you keep it to yourself? Of course not! You’d want to tell everyone!
That’s how God feels about Jesus. God loves every single person in every country, speaking every language. He wants everyone to know about Jesus and His love. The sermon reminded us there are over 17,000 different people groups in the world—and God loves them all! He wants us to help share this good news.
Discussion with Younger Kids
Question 1: “Did you know there are people all over the world who speak different languages than us? Can you think of any other languages people speak?”
- Let them name languages they’ve heard
- “God loves people who speak Spanish, Chinese, French, and thousands of other languages!”
Question 2: “If you had a favorite toy or treat, would you want to share it with your friends?”
- “Jesus is even better than our favorite things! God wants us to share about Jesus with everyone.”
Question 3: “What’s one way our family could pray for people in other countries?”
- Suggest praying before bed for kids around the world to learn about Jesus
Activity: Look at a globe or world map together. Let each child point to a country and pray: “God, please help people in [country] know about Jesus.”
Discussion with Older Kids
Question 1: “The sermon mentioned that 3 billion people have never really heard about Jesus. That’s a lot of people! Why do you think it’s important that they hear?”
- Guide them toward: everyone deserves to know God’s love; Jesus told us to share
Question 2: “What are some ways kids your age could be part of God’s plan for the world?”
- Ideas: pray for missionaries, save money to give, learn about other countries, be kind to kids from other cultures at school
Question 3: “The pastor talked about setting an alarm for 10:02 to pray Luke 10:2. Would you want to try that as a family?”
- Read Luke 10:2 together: “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
Challenge: Choose one country this week. Learn three facts about it and pray for that country every day.
Discussion with Teens
Question 1: “The sermon said, ‘Where passion for God is weak, zeal for missions will be weak.’ What do you think that means?”
- Discuss how our love for God naturally leads to caring about what He cares about
- “How strong is your passion for God right now? What strengthens or weakens it?”
Question 2: “The pastor mentioned that distractions, fear, and things like gambling, pornography, and drugs weaken our passion for God. What distractions do you think affect people our age most?”
- Have an honest conversation about phones, social media, entertainment, etc.
- “How can we protect our hearts so we stay focused on what matters?”
Question 3: “God’s plan from Genesis to Revelation has been about bringing people from every nation to worship Him. Does that change how you think about your future—your career, where you live, how you spend money?”
- Discuss practical ways: mission trips, careers that allow travel, supporting missionaries, being intentional with international students
Question 4: “The sermon mentioned that some people’s jobs send them around the world. How could someone use a ‘regular’ job as a way to be on mission?”
- Talk about being intentional on business trips, in airports, with international colleagues
Challenge: Set the 10:02 alarm on your phone. Commit to praying Luke 10:2 every day for the next month (until Easter). Also, research one unreached people group and pray specifically for them this week.
Closing Prayer
“God, thank you that you love every person in every nation. Help our family be part of your plan to share Jesus with the world. Show us how we can pray, give, and go. We want to care about what you care about. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
