“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)
As our culture rushes headlong into artificial relationships, artificial wisdom, and artificial meaning, the church has an incredible opportunity to shine. People are longing for connection, for counsel, for truth, for purpose. They’re looking in all the wrong places, asking machines to fill needs that only God and authentic community can meet. This is our moment. We have the Holy Spirit, the ultimate Counselor. We have the body of Christ, designed for genuine relationship and mutual care. We have the living Word of God, sharper than any algorithm. What the world is desperately seeking in artificial forms, we can offer in authentic reality.Don’t underestimate the power of your very human, very real presence in someone’s life. When you listen with genuine empathy, when you speak truth in love, when you walk alongside someone through suffering, when you point them to Jesus rather than easy answers, you’re offering something no AI ever could. You’re reflecting the image of God. You’re being the light in the darkness. This week, look for opportunities to step into the gaps that our culture is trying to fill with technology. Invite someone into real conversation. Offer to pray with a struggling friend. Share wisdom from Scripture without shortcuts. Be fully present with the people God puts in your path. Your humanity, empowered by the Holy Spirit, is exactly what this AI-saturated world needs.
Reflect:
- Who in your life is seeking connection, wisdom, or meaning in artificial places? How can you offer them something real this week?
- In what specific ways can you be a light in the darkness, offering authentic relationship and biblical truth in a world of artificial substitutes?
- Ask God to open your eyes to opportunities to shine His light this week, and to give you courage to offer real relationship, truth, and hope to those searching for meaning in artificial places.
