“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)

Paul wanted desperately to return to the Thessalonians, but he wrote plainly: “Satan hindered us.” That’s a bold statement. Many of us live as though Satan doesn’t exist or at least doesn’t care about our daily lives. But the reality is that the enemy hates kingdom work, he hates influential people, and he especially hates face-to-face, eyeball-to-eyeball relationships where real transformation happens. Think about the conflicts in your life right now. Is there someone you’re avoiding? Someone you talk about to everyone except them? Satan’s favorite strategy is to keep us isolated, angry, and distant from the very people God wants us to reconcile with.

Here’s the good news: even when Satan hinders, God is still at work. Paul couldn’t get back to Thessalonica, so he wrote a letter. That letter became Scripture that has shaped millions of lives for 2,000 years. What the enemy meant for evil, God used for extraordinary good. Maybe you’re facing a hindrance right now: a broken relationship, a job loss, a health crisis, a financial setback. Don’t count God out. He’s not surprised, and He’s already working in ways you can’t see yet. Your job is to stay faithful, keep moving forward, and trust that God is turning even Satan’s schemes into opportunities for His glory.

Reflect:

  • Where might Satan be hindering you from face-to-face reconciliation or deeper relationship right now?
  • How might God be using a current difficulty in your life for purposes you can’t yet see?
  • Ask God to open your eyes to the enemy’s schemes in your relationships and to give you faith to trust that He’s working even in the hardest circumstances.
