“And may the Lord cause you to increase and overflow with love for one another and for everyone, just as we do for you.” (1 Thessalonians 3:12)

You have immeasurable power living inside you. Not your own strength or willpower, but the actual Spirit of the risen Christ. Think about that for a moment. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is at work in you right now. Yet we often live like we’re running on empty, trying to manufacture love, patience, and self-control through sheer determination. We make promises to ourselves: “I’ll never do that again,” only to find ourselves right back in the same pattern. That’s because real transformation doesn’t come from trying harder. It comes from tapping into the power that’s already in you.

Paul prays that God would cause love to increase and overflow in the Thessalonians. He doesn’t tell them to just love more or try harder. He asks God to do the work in them. This is how sanctification works. Yes, you participate through obedience, but the power source is Christ in you. When you face that person who’s hard to love, you can ask the Spirit to produce love in you. When temptation feels overwhelming, you can rely on the self-control that comes from the Spirit. Stop trying to be Spider-Man without acknowledging the power that changed you. You have what you need. Now learn to walk in it.

Reflect:

  • Where in your life are you relying on your own strength instead of the Spirit’s power?
  • What would change if you truly believed you have the immeasurable power of God at work in you?
  • Thank God for the gift of his Spirit living in you. Ask him to help you rely on his power rather than your own efforts, especially in the areas where you feel weakest.
