Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. (Ephesians 6:17-18)

Nehemiah’s builders worked with tools in one hand and weapons nearby; believers are called to a similar readiness. The sermon emphasized that God’s Word is not an accessory—it’s the sword of the Spirit, and prayer is the constant posture of battle. A shallow, occasional approach to Scripture leaves us vulnerable, but immersion forms resilience and clarity.

When lies come—condemnation, hopelessness, temptation, cynicism—the Word gives you something solid to stand on. This is how we “lean into the Overcomer.” Jesus has overcome the world, and faith lays hold of His victory in daily, ordinary moments. Prayer keeps you dependent; Scripture keeps you anchored; together they keep you building.

Today, commit to a sustainable plan to keep the Word within arm’s reach—actually closer than that: within your mind and mouth. Ask God to make you both steadfast and fruitful so your neighborhood, workplace, and city can encounter the life Jesus came to give.
