“For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Jesus teaches that pride distances us from God while humility welcomes His grace. It can be tempting to seek places of honor, looking for affirmation and recognition among peers. Yet the way of Christ is marked by taking the lower seat, letting go of reputation, and choosing to serve. True humility is not about thinking less of ourselves but thinking of ourselves less—focusing instead on how to uplift others. In God’s kingdom, those who humble themselves find favor and honor that cannot be taken away by circumstance.

Humility prepares the heart to expand its guest list. When we release our grip on status, comfort, and self-importance, we become open to people we might have overlooked before. God honors the humility that quietly serves and welcomes without condition or expectation, seeing no guest as beneath us. In this, we follow the pattern of Christ, who humbled Himself to welcome us to His table.
