“…because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.” (1 Corinthians 16:9)

Paul described a “wide door for effective work” that came with “many adversaries,” and Nehemiah experienced the same reality. Opposition showed up quickly—people were displeased that anyone sought the welfare of God’s people. The sermon reminded us that resistance doesn’t automatically mean you missed God; sometimes it confirms that the work matters and that spiritual perseverance is required.

Nehemiah answered opposition with clarity and confidence: the work was God’s, and God would give success. He didn’t pretend the critics were harmless, but he refused to let discouragement set the agenda. When God opens a door, your task is not to guarantee outcomes; it’s to remain faithful, courageous, and anchored in God’s call.

Today, begin with the first and greatest open door—Jesus Himself. As you abide with Him, you can step into your “sent” life with steadiness, trusting that God’s hand is on you even when the path includes setbacks, critics, or delays.
