“For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” — Philippians 2:9-11
Here’s the reality we all need to face: one day, every single person will bow before Jesus. Every knee with no exceptions. The question isn’t whether you’ll acknowledge His authority; the question is when and under what circumstances. Will you bow gladly as someone who has known Him, loved Him, and followed His marching orders throughout your life? Or will you bow in that moment as a stranger, forced to acknowledge what you spent your life denying? The difference between these two scenarios is literally the difference between eternal life and eternal separation from God.
If Jesus truly has all authority in your life today, it will show up in your obedience to the Great Commission. This isn’t a mission for a few super-spiritual Christians or professional missionaries. It’s the marching orders for every person who claims Jesus as Lord. If you say Jesus has authority over your life but you’re not actively reaching the lost, making disciples, baptizing, and teaching, then there’s a disconnect between what you profess and how you’re living. This isn’t meant to shame you, it’s meant to wake you up to the mission. We have a spiritual war raging around us, and people’s eternal destinies hang in the balance. The good news is that you don’t have to figure it all out today. Just ask God each morning: “What are my marching orders today?” Then step out in obedience, even when it’s uncomfortable or unclear. One day you’ll stand before Jesus, and you’ll want to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” not because you were perfect, but because you surrendered to His authority and followed where He led.
Reflect:
- How does knowing that every knee will eventually bow before Jesus change the urgency with which you approach sharing the gospel?
- What is one specific step you can take this week to obey the Great Commission in your everyday life?
- Ask God to give you fresh vision for the mission He’s called you to. Pray for courage to step into uncomfortable conversations, relationships, or situations where you can make disciples. Ask Him for your specific marching orders for this season of life.
