Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he grows older he will not abandon it.

What is one thing you have been meaning to do but haven’t yet? Many of us have a running to-do list that is never fully complete. Often this is due to a lack of time to do everything. Our days are fixed in routine, and maintenance tasks, like eating or working, go to the top of the list while other things we’d like to do often slip through the cracks. One of the more challenging aspects of parenting is how fast time moves. We get into rhythms and routines and the days give way to months and years quickly. With the seemingly rapid passing of time, it can be difficult to be intentional about training our children in godliness.

Training our children in the way of the Lord means more than signing them up for the activities that will teach them Christian values, it also requires our own living and grow in faith. A good personal trainer does more than give an exercise routine, he or she demonstrates the exercises for the trainees, doing the exercise alongside the one training and giving guidance for difficult workouts. This is not completely unlike the role of a parent. Parenting is a high calling and an unbelievable opportunity to invest in someone’s life deeply for the glory of God. May we use our days to live our faith in all areas of life, not only telling others the way to go but also walking the road alongside them.

  • What are some things your parents exemplified to you?
  • How can you be intentionally God-honoring in the time you have with your family?
  • Pray and thank God for His design of the family. Ask Him to use your family to bring Him glory and show His love to others.
