Consequently, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. Therefore let’s make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same example of disobedience.
As enter summertime, many of us are eager to get to our vacation or other time off. Breaks from our regular rhythm are something we look forward to, hoping to be refreshed when we return. If we recognize the impact a good, restful vacation can have on us physically, how much more should we seek the sabbath rest that we can receive from God, which can give our souls the rest we have been longing for?
All of us face struggles and difficult circumstances that do not disappear when we go on our desired retreat. Thankfully, in Christ, we don’t have to escape the hard moments to rest. He is right there with us, in good and hard times. A rhythm of Sabbath rest reminds us who is in control in the difficult places of our lives and anchors us to the truth that we have all we need in Him. Don’t overlook this valuable gift of the presence of Christ. Many hope to find deep rest on vacation but are left wanting as they return to stressful jobs and lifestyles. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait for the perfect vacation or build up a certain amount of time off. We can run to Jesus when we have nothing left and find the rest for our souls. Let’s make every effort to enter that rest.
- What upcoming vacation or time off are you looking forward to? How can you glorify God in that time of rest?
