When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might come and anoint Him. And very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. They were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone from the entrance of the tomb for us?” And looking up, they noticed that the stone had been rolled away; for it was extremely large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed. But he said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; see, here is the place where they laid Him. But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He told you.’”
When was a time you were excited to share good news? Maybe it was a promotion, a baby announcement, or an answered prayer. When we have exciting news, it is tough to keep it in. Sharing good news with others is an invitation for people to celebrate with us and helps the reality sink in. What was going to be a solemn day, a day to bring closure to the death of Jesus became a day of shock and rejoicing. God worked differently than the women expected. He met their grief with hope and gave them new hope to hold onto and share.
With this unbelievable announcement, the women were given a role: go and tell! Their plans all changed in light of this new reality. Jesus’s resurrection was more than good news to hear; it was a life changing reality. Everything changed because Jesus rose again. That same life-altering reality is true today! Jesus gives us hope, peace, and vision beyond our current circumstances. When we come to understand His resurrection and the new life He gives, we move from our way of life and our ideas for ourselves to take part in His mission to go and tell others about Him. Whether you became a Christian recently or have had a lifetime of faith, the call is the same: Go and tell. The God of the heavens and earth came to fix what we could not and show us who He is. He suffered and died in our place and rose to show His victory over death and sin. He changes us from the inside out when we come to faith in Him, and He is faithful to go with us as we share with others. How will you share today?
- How has the reality of Jesus’s resurrection changed your life? How have you shared that with others?
- What are some things that make it challenging to go and tell others about the hope of Jesus? How can God help you through those challenges?
- Pray and thank God for His resurrection. Ask Him to help you share this good news.
