“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” (1 Peter 1:3)
Have you ever felt like the ground beneath your feet was shifting? Maybe your job security feels uncertain, or a relationship is shaky, or your health has taken an unexpected turn. We all search for something solid to stand on. Peter reminds us that our hope isn’t grounded in our circumstances, our achievements, or even our ability to maintain a positive attitude. It’s grounded in something that already happened: the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This isn’t a “fingers crossed” kind of hope. It’s a living, breathing reality that changed everything.
What does it mean to be born again into a living hope? Just like you had nothing to do with your physical birth, you have nothing to do with this spiritual birth either. It’s all God’s mercy. But here’s the beautiful part: when you were born physically, you were born into a life you’re still trying to figure out. When you’re born again spiritually, you’re born into something certain. You’re born into hope that’s alive right now, not just waiting for you in heaven someday. This hope changes how you face today’s struggles because it’s rooted in what God already accomplished when He raised Jesus from the dead.
Reflect:
- What are you tempted to place your hope in besides God? (Your job, your relationships, your own abilities?)
- How would your day look different if you truly believed the resurrection of Jesus gives you a living hope right now?
- Thank God for His mercy in causing you to be born again. Ask Him to help you experience the reality of this living hope today, especially in the areas where you feel most uncertain.
