When Jesus came back to Capernaum a few days later, it was heard that He was at home. And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer space, not even near the door; and He was speaking the word to them.
Have you ever been to a sold-out concert? Anticipation for the performance fills the atmosphere. People have traveled, taken time off work, and spent money all for this moment—to see the show in person. When Jesus arrived in Capernaum, many people had anticipated His arrival: word had spread about who He was, and people were excited. But their excitement wasn’t about a performance or grand show; they went to hear Jesus teach, to be with Him, and to see what He could do.
A sold-out concert is a special once in a lifetime experience—and not just because we expect an awesome performance. We get excited about having an experience that cannot be replicated anywhere else. Over time in our faith journey, we can lose our awe and excitement about who Jesus is because we get used to Him being part of our lives. We know the right answers in small group; we have heard most of the stories; and our excitement to know Him more starts to fade.
But this Jesus who has done miracles, taught thousands, healed the broken, and saved us from our sin is still worth getting excited about. He has given us a new life so that we can live each day from a new perspective in Him. We have been called to a lifetime of adventure with Jesus, and every day is a new opportunity to learn and grow in Him. We look forward to living life with Him because it is more than just a once in a lifetime experience—it is a daily eternal investment that will never fade away.
