“But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful.” — Matthew 28:16-17

The disciples had a choice after Jesus’ resurrection—they could have stayed home, processing their confusion and doubt, or they could show up where Jesus told them to meet. They chose to show up, even with their questions and uncertainties. Notice that Jesus didn’t wait for them to have perfect faith before giving them their mission. He met them right where they were—doubts and all. This is such an encouraging truth for us today. We don’t have to have everything figured out before we show up to spend time with God. We just need to be present.

Elizabeth Elliot asked herself every morning, “What are my marching orders today?” What a beautiful way to approach each day: not with our own agenda driving us, but with an open hand before the Father. Showing up isn’t just about Sunday morning worship; it’s about daily abiding with God, remaining with Him in those quiet moments where we ask, “What do You want from me today?” When we show up consistently (even when we’re doubtful, tired, or confused) we position ourselves to hear from the One who has all authority. And the beautiful part is, he enjoys when we show up. Just like a grandfather’s heart melts when his grandson calls his name, God delights when His children simply come to be with Him.

Reflect:

  • When was the last time you showed up before God without an agenda, just to be with Him?
  • What doubts or hesitations are keeping you from fully showing up in your relationship with God right now?
  • Ask God to help you develop a daily rhythm of showing up—of abiding with Him each morning to receive your marching orders for the day.
