Indeed, while following the way of Your judgments, Lord, We have waited for You eagerly; Your name, and remembering You, is the desire of our souls.
Have you ever heard someone say, “Your wedding day is the shortest day of your life”? When people share insight, they are referring to how quickly time flies as the preparation comes together, the ceremony takes place, and the reception happens. After a season of waiting and planning, the hours fly by with so much to do and take in. Before you know it, the bride and groom are off to begin their married life, and this much anticipated event is complete.
A wedding day is one of the most anticipated days in a person’s life. In today’s verse, Isaiah describes his desire for God with this same level of anticipation, if not more. He has waited for God eagerly. He says remembering God is the desire of his soul.
Can you say the same? Is your heart full of desire to know Him and be with Him? This level of adoration is completely fitting when we remember God as our Creator and the One who’s image we bear. We grow in our reflection of Him as we further know Him and walk in His way. We look to Him and wait for Him eagerly because we know He is the way to life. When He is the desire of our souls, our faith is more than a peace in a passing moment or a spiritual high at a retreat. He becomes our constant hope, ever-present peace, and our lasting joy.
- What level of desire would you say you have for God right now?
- What would it look like to make God the top priority in your life? How would your life change if He became the desire of your soul?
- Pray and tell God why it is hard for you to keep Him as the desire of your soul. Ask Him to grow your desire for Him and your appreciation of Him.
