“And we sent Timothy, our brother and God’s co-worker in the gospel of Christ, to establish and exhort you in your faith.” (1 Thessalonians 3:2)
Paul couldn’t go to the Thessalonians himself, but he didn’t let that stop the mission. He sent Timothy, someone qualified and trusted, to strengthen and encourage believers who were facing persecution. There’s something powerful in this picture: we’re not meant to do ministry alone, and sometimes our role isn’t to go ourselves but to send and support others who can. Think about the people in your life who are stepping out in faith, whether they’re church planters, missionaries, or simply friends sharing the gospel in their neighborhoods. How are you supporting them?
The beauty of the body of Christ is that we all have different roles to play. Maybe you’re not called to move across the world, but you can pray faithfully, give generously, or encourage consistently. Just like Humphrey Monmouth supported William Tyndale’s Bible translation work, your behind-the-scenes partnership matters eternally. When you invest in someone else’s ministry, you’re multiplying your impact for the kingdom. You become part of every conversation they have, every person they reach, every life that’s transformed.
Reflect:
- Who in your life is stepping out in faith that you could support through prayer, encouragement, or resources?
- What keeps you from taking a more active role in supporting those who are sent out to share the gospel?
- Ask God to show you one person or ministry you can intentionally support this week, and pray for wisdom in how to encourage them.
