Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.

What moments in your life have been transformative? These moments change the way we see and interact with the world. For good or for bad, what happens in life affects us. But over time, we can forget how impactful a moment was, and it influences us less and less. When Paul spoke to the Philippian church, He appealed to what Christ had done in them. Paul’s encouragement reminds us that the same transformative work that saved us also sustains us. Whether you are a brand-new Christian or have been living in Christ for a long time, this is not of your power or ability. It is Christ who changes us, keeps us, and leads us on each day. As we walk with Him, He continues to change how we live and the purpose we live for.

As days pass and blend together, we can miss the work of Christ in and around us, but Paul challenged us not to let this happen. We are not to live for our own purpose but to let our days be shaped by Christ’s purpose and love. Galatians 5:24-25 says, “Now those who belong to Christ Jesus crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let’s follow the Spirit as well.” Today is a new day, a new beginning, and a new invitation to allow Christ to transform and shape your life.

  • When have you been encouraged by Christ and His love? How was that formative for you?
  • In what areas of life is it easy for you to miss God’s presence and work? What are some of the things you have had a tough time surrendering to God daily?
  • Praise God that He gives us eternal purpose in Him. Ask Him to continue to transform you every day.
