“Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled.”
God’s heart is for His house to be filled, and He calls us to take an active role in inviting others in. The invitation is not simply for those close to us or those who fit easily into our lives, but also for those on the outskirts, the forgotten, and those who may feel unworthy. Sometimes people need to be compassionately urged to come, because they carry doubts about their value or question if they truly belong. When we step out of our comfort zones to reach people who seem far off, we reflect the radical hospitality and mercy of Christ. Our obedience in urging others to come isn’t about force, but about offering grace, hope, and the love we ourselves have received.
We may fear opening our lives to strangers or feel unsure about what to say, but the desire to see God’s house full should outweigh our hesitation. Hospitality in God’s eyes is loving the stranger, not merely welcoming those who can return the favor. Every invitation extended is a participation in God’s greater plan for redemption and belonging. As we go out to the highways and hedges of our daily routines, may we see each encounter as an opportunity to invite someone toward Jesus’ table. Our willingness to do so reveals the depth of grace at work in our own lives.
- Who in your life could use a sincere invitation to experience God’s love?
- What fears keep you from reaching beyond your circle of comfort?
- How can you demonstrate hospitality to someone who cannot repay you?
- Ask God to give you courage and compassion to invite outsiders in, and to fill His house with those who need His love.
