“Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.” (Luke 13:24)

Jesus’ words call us to a kind of urgency that runs counter to our culture’s tendency toward delay and complacency. The image of the narrow door reminds us that entry into God’s kingdom is not something to be taken for granted or put off until later. It is not about working harder in our own strength but about the seriousness with which we respond to Jesus’ invitation. Many will seek to enter, but not all will find the way, because the path requires humility and surrender rather than self-reliance or religious routine. Today, consider what it means for you to strive, not by performing, but by honestly seeking Christ above all else.

Reflect on the invitation that Jesus gives to enter through the narrow door. It is open to all, but it is also specific and exclusive, centered on Jesus himself. Take time to consider whether you are tempted to trust in your own efforts, traditions, or background instead of the person and work of Christ. Jesus’ call is not just for an initial response, but for a daily pursuit that shapes our motivations, relationships, and priorities. Let this urgency move you toward a fresh dependence on him today.

  • What does it look like for you to “strive” for the narrow door in your current circumstances?
  • How does the idea of urgency affect the way you approach your relationship with God?
  • Ask God to search your heart and reveal any complacency or self-reliance, and to help you joyfully pursue him as the only way.
