“The LORD bless you, and keep you; the LORD cause His face to shine on you, and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up His face to you, and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)
When have you experienced the difference between someone offering nice words from afar and someone who is truly with you through thick and thin? A nice sentiment can only get us so far. We can quickly forget kind words when things get hard, but love shown through action makes a lasting impression.
This verse was a common blessing among God’s people, the Israelites. These words were packed with meaning and powerful reminders of the truth of God. These words include an expectation and anticipation of God’s involvement in the lives of His people. This blessing was more than just a nice sentiment, but an encouragement into the present reality of God’s presence and way of life. He guides us through life and gives us real peace. As we follow His direction, we receive grace and His gift of peace as a current reality, no matter what we face.
- How have you experienced God’s peace? What did you learn from that experience?
- What are some ways you can encourage and point others to God each day?
- Pray and praise God for giving you the reality of His peace. Invite Him to work in your life and in the lives of those around you.
