Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.”
When we are deciding under someone else’s authority, we often have a different approach than if deciding on our own. At work, we are aware approval process to which our projects must be submitted, understanding that the final call is not always ours. When we become followers of Jesus, we proclaim Him as our Savior, but we also submit to Him as Lord, recognizing His ultimate authority over all things. When we submit to His control and sovereignty, we also admit there are things that we can’t control and trust His direction in our lives.
God often graciously allows us to use our gifts to glorify Him in the way we choose and the place we choose. We always reap the benefit when we recognize His authority in our plans. Instead of becoming hopeless when something difficult comes our way, we look to God for the next step. Instead of holding plans with tight fists, we recognize God’s authority to change the plans we make. We are given the ability to make plans or decisions about how to spend our days, but how we plan and how we make those decisions says a lot about whose authority we recognize—God’s or our own. As we start this new year, we must plan humbly and prayerfully before our King, trusting the future that He holds even when it’s different than we expect.
- What are some plans you have made for 2023?
- What would it look like to trust God with the plans and resolutions you have made?
- Pray and ask God to help you trust Him and submit to His authority as you plan.
