“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:15

The disciples were still thinking about a territorial kingdom such as land, borders, political power. But Jesus came to establish a different kind of kingdom, one that’s set up in human hearts. This kingdom doesn’t have geographical boundaries; it crosses every border, language, and culture. Every person who repents and believes becomes a citizen of this kingdom, with Jesus as King ruling their heart. This is revolutionary: the kingdom of God isn’t about reclaiming physical territory but about transformed lives.

This changes everything about how we engage with the world. We’re not fighting for political power or cultural dominance. We’re ambassadors of a King whose kingdom advances one changed heart at a time. When you share the gospel with your neighbor, when you pray for a coworker’s salvation, when you support missionaries translating the Bible for unreached people groups, you’re participating in kingdom expansion. The question isn’t “Is my country becoming more Christian?” but “Is Jesus the King of my heart, and am I helping others discover His kingship in theirs?” This kingdom work happens in your home, your workplace, your neighborhood, and yes, to the remotest parts of the earth.

Reflect:

  • In what ways am I tempted to confuse God’s kingdom with political, cultural, or national agendas?
  • How can I actively participate in kingdom expansion—helping others discover Jesus as King—in my everyday life this week?
  • Pray for God to deepen your understanding of His kingdom and to show you specific ways you can be an ambassador for King Jesus in your spheres of influence.
