“I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do.” – John 17:4
Jesus could pray this before He even went to the cross because He was confident He would finish His work. There was no doubt, no wavering, no plan B. He came to accomplish a specific mission, and He would see it through to completion. “It is finished,” He declared from the cross. The work was done. Now the question for us is: Will we finish the work He’s given us? Will we be faithful to the task and mission He has for each of us? This isn’t about perfection, it’s about obedience and perseverance.
Think about the global workers your church supports. They’ve said yes to finishing their work in difficult places, often at great personal cost. They’re not just going through the motions; they’re accomplishing the specific work God gave them. But you don’t have to move overseas to finish your work. Jesus did His work in a small region, primarily Galilee and Jerusalem. Your region might be your neighborhood, your workplace, your family. The question isn’t about the size or location of your mission field; it’s about faithfulness. Are you willing to sit before God with open hands and say, “Here am I. What do You have for me?” And then, are you willing to do it? To keep doing it when it’s hard? To finish it even when no one’s watching? That’s what it means to glorify God on earth, accomplishing the work He’s given you to do.
Reflect:
- If your life ended today, what work would you wish you had finished for God?
- What’s one specific step you can take this week toward accomplishing the work God has for you?
- Ask God to show you clearly the work He has for you, and pray for the strength and faithfulness to accomplish it.
