Who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, eager for good deeds.
In real estate, a “house flipper” is someone who takes a house that is run down or outdated and to restores it to make it a desirable home for buyers. Countless TV shows have spawned from this concept. These shows follow the process of transformation from a run-down home to an updated masterpiece. What Jesus has done in our lives is also renovation work: He has taken down sin, redeemed us, and purified us so that we are restored to live in a new way with a new identity as His people. In many home renovation shows, the flipper restores the most prominent areas of a home, such as the living room and kitchen, but will leave out other spaces like the bathroom and bedrooms untouched due to limitations such as time or budget. Even though the house looks completely changed according to what we see, there are still areas that do not reflect the restoration of the home.
Often, we surrender the aspects of our life that are most visible to Jesus. This may include our Sundays or how we behave in public, but we struggle to surrender the more private areas like how we use our free time or our thought life. But Jesus has come to do a complete overhaul on our lives, not a highlight reel to only make us look good on the exterior. And His grace has no limitations! He has come to redeem us from every lawless deed and transform us as people for His own possession to live for Him with this new identity. This is not something we can do half-heartedly or only in certain areas of our lives. The gospel changes every aspect of who we are through the power of the Holy Spirit.
