Commit your works to the Lord,
And your plans will be established.
To formally build any kind of structure in the United States, there is a process of planning and approval at multiple levels. Architects, engineers, and city planning teams must look over the plans and approve them before any steps are taken toward building the structure. These steps are taken because building construction is a serious process, requiring safety and thoughtful design. As we think about the plans for our lives, we often have some idea of what we want to do but we cannot skip this essential step of making our plans under God’s authority, asking for His direction. You were made to walk with Him, follow Him, and lead others to Him.
Consulting with God can be intimidating. What happens if He says no or if we don’t have clarity about what to do? God’s words to the Israelites in Jeremiah 29:13-14 serve as a great reminder for moments like these: “And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will let Myself be found by you,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will bring you back to the place from where I sent you into exile.’” God is ready to show us who He is and where He is leading when we call on His name for direction. In Him we have greater plans than we could imagine and greater hope as we invest in the things of eternity rather than only the things of today.
- What plans do you need to surrender to the Lord?
- What does it look like to seek God’s direction as you make plans? How do you determine where He is leading?
- Pray and thank God for His willingness to guide you and your plans as you surrender to Him.
