For You will break the yoke of their burden and the staff on their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor, as at the battle of Midian. For every boot of the marching warrior in the roar of battle, and cloak rolled in blood, will be for burning, fuel for the fire. (Isaiah 9:4-5)
Have you ever attempted to repair something, only to realize soon after it was not resolved like you hoped it would be? When trying to find a solution to a problem, we would like a lasting solution, but we can’t always find it. When Isaiah prophesied about the Messiah, he gave hope for a permanent and complete resolution. Jesus’s victory would not be temporary but would address brokenness at its root and handle it forever. For all the problems we see on earth, there is so much hope in knowing that God has a plan to handle it once and for all. Our attempts to fix things on earth can only go so far and our solution can last for only so long, but God gives hope of full redemption. Even as we face daily problems and seek solutions, we can rest knowing God has resolved our greatest problem and He is walking with us each day.
- What are the problems of life you have tried to handle on your own? What has happened when you have tried to find your own solution?
- Why is it so important to remember the hope God provides? Where do you need to be reminded of that hope?
- Pray and thank God for giving us a hope that is complete.
