“Greet Prisca and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, who risked their own necks for my life, to whom not only do I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles; also greet the church that is in their house. Greet Epaenetus, my beloved, who is the first convert to Christ from Asia.” Romans 16:3-5

Many people will do nice things for a friend or even help when they are having a hard time, but the church has historically served one another and in the world in a unique way. The service of the church is different because it is not done only for those like us or when convenient; instead, it is rooted in unconditional love and unity in Christ. Prisca and Aquilla risked their lives for Paul and were used to bring the Gentiles into the body of Christ.

As Christians today, we have opportunity to join this story of supernatural love and unique service that happens in homes, churches, and communities around the world. The story of our daily tasks won’t always stand out, but when the rhythm of our lives is serving the Lord and living in unity, it will make an impact for Christ. Paul didn’t have to be with the church to see the impact of their time together and the witness that was evident through them. Even small moments with only a handful of willing servants have the potential for massive impact in the kingdom of God.

  • How have you been impacted by the service of other Christians?
  • Can you say your life is marked by unity and service? Why or why not?
  • Pray and ask God to grow your willingness to serve those around you and intentionality point others to Him through those opportunities.
