“Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.” (Luke 10:3)

Jesus gives his followers a clear and challenging command: “Go!” But he also sets their expectations for the journey. He says he is sending them out “like lambs among wolves,” which is not an image of power or self-reliance, but of vulnerability and dependence on God. This reminds us that the mission Jesus gives is not always safe, easy, or comfortable. We are called to go with humility, gentleness, and trust, not with aggression or self-protection. When we go in this way, we reflect the character of our Good Shepherd, Jesus.

Being “lambs among wolves” means facing situations where we might feel weak, outnumbered, or misunderstood. Jesus never promises that sharing his love will be without risk or rejection, but he does promise his presence and care. Our strength comes not from our own ability to defend ourselves, but from knowing that Jesus is with us every step. In times when we feel nervous or unsure, we can remember that we are following in the footsteps of Christ, who was the ultimate Lamb—gentle, sacrificial, and victorious through weakness.

Today, consider where God might be asking you to “go”—whether it’s a conversation at work, an act of kindness in your neighborhood, or a step of faith in your family. Remember that you don’t have to have all the answers or be the strongest person in the room. God’s power is made perfect in our weakness, and He is with you as you go.

Reflection Questions:

  • Where do you feel God nudging you to go, even if it feels risky or uncomfortable?
  • How does Jesus’ image of “lambs among wolves” challenge your ideas of strength?
  • In what ways can you rely on Jesus’ presence when you feel weak or unsure?
