But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we did in righteousness, but in accordance with His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit.

When was the last time you felt embarrassed? Most of the time a mistake we make is less embarrassing than the feeling the judgment from others. No one wants to be seen at their weakest point because people often take advantage of or use those moments as leverage to make themselves feel better. But our lowest moments are safe in God’s hands. Even though He is perfectly righteous, He does not use our lowly moments to mock or criticize us. He came to us to be with us in those low moments and to redeem and restore what has been broken.

In His kindness, He came to earth in the person of Jesus. He didn’t see our brokenness as something to take advantage of or as a sign we were too far gone. He saved us because of His mercy. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we are no longer defined by those lowly moments. Instead, we are defined by Him. Our broken pieces are safe in His hands. We often want to hide our struggles until we work them out on our own, but we can never be fully redeemed on our own. Only God can restore what has been broken, through the Holy Spirit. In the same way children run to their parents when they get hurt, we can run to our heavenly Father with our broken pieces, our sin struggles, our pain, and our grief and ask Him to heal our hearts in the way only He can.

  • What do you do when you have a low moment? Is turning to God your first reaction? Why or why not?
  • What are some broken areas of your life that you need to trust God to redeem?
  • Pray and thank God for His kindness and restoration in your life.
