For they exchanged the truth of God for falsehood, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
As we consider making purchases, we often weight the value the item will provide us. We look at food for the nutrients it will give us or the craving it will satisfy. We consider various products for the promises of how they will make life easier. After making a purchase, if things are not as we expected, we will make a complaint or exchange it for something different. But we aren’t always the most trustworthy assessors. We all have different tastes and preferences. Imagine if someone ordered pasta from the best Italian restaurant in town and received their meal only to send it back, desiring instead spaghetti from a can. Most would consider this foolish and silly.
But Romans 1 tells us all people have made this type of exchange, giving up God’s truth for a lie. We trade His truth for a watered-down version or falsehood, looking to the wisdom of man instead of wisdom from God. But we were made for more than the things of this world. We were made to worship God, to know His truth, and be changed into His image. We are daily tempted to exchange the truth of God for falsehood. Don’t believe the lie.
- What are some ways you are prone to exchange God’s truth for falsehood in the world?
- Observing your life, how much value might someone assume you place on your relationship with God?
- Pray and thank God for how He has given you the valuable gift of reconciliation with Him. Ask Him to help you to discern His truth and not exchange it for a lie.
